Pigmentarium – Bridging Scent, Art and Architecture

Published January 14, 2026

Pigmentarium is a Czech perfume house guided by the philosophy that fragrance is a unique creative expression reflecting our inner world. Their perfumes highlight and enhance your personality; seamlessly adapting to the wearer, and becoming a reflection of your own distinctive character.

The house was founded in 2018 by the innovator Tomáš Ric, who developed the first fragrances inspired by Czech and international modernist movements. Tomáš, who lives in Prague, says that inspiration for the fragrances often comes to him when he is not actively looking for it: “It’s a complex process – a mix of thousands of impressions, conversations, architecture, and social dynamics that eventually crystallize into a mood so tangible it gives birth to a new idea.”

When a feeling or a story is in place, the process begins to interpret it as a fragrance. “We start asking what materials can help us paint that picture. In the case of Brutal, it was opulence – narcotic flowers, intensity. Yet we also wanted to create a sense of comfort and familiarity – vanilla, sandalwood, coffee, and a touch of Negroni.”

When we ask Tomáš to describe his personality as a scent, he returns to Brutal EdP: ”It appears tough at first, but in reality, it’s very soft, gentle, and full of layers.”

His favourite scent memory is his grandmother’s greenhouse, with its scent of nostalgia: “The carefree feeling of childhood captured in that scent is simply unbeatable.” When it comes to underrated fragrance notes, he highlights one that provides comfort, namely tobacco: “Such a beautiful, complex, and warm note — rich yet clean. It makes me feel cozy in any situation.”

At Pigmentarium, and personally for Tomáš, art is at the center. In 2025, the house launched “Art behind the Glass”: an initiative showcasing European artists and landmarks in an outdoor gallery where art, perfumery, and architecture meet in the form of sculptures inspired by scent, displayed in stores and public spaces. “What inspires me most is my admiration for Prague and its artistic scene”,  Tomáš explains, and continues: “and the fact that fragrance teaches us to perceive and record emotions. At Pigmentarium, these two worlds merged into one.”

He describes Pigmentarium’s DNA as “independence”, referring both to the fragrances themselves and the house, where all creations are completely their own. “They should stand alone, proud and self-sufficient. Independent from each other, yet able to complement one another if they choose to. Every scent is completely different.” This is how Pigmentarium stands out: as a perfume house with unique fragrances that transcend trends and speak through their art – a house reflecting the soul of Central Europe with global confidence.
