Sandalwood

Sandalwood is a note with a rich history, having been used in incense and perfumery for thousands of years. The note is often perceived as softly woody, creamy, or even milky. It usually has a distinctive warmth and a slightly smoky quality. We most often find it among the base notes, where it acts as a fixative, helping to extend longevity and bridge other notes. The origin of the note is trees of the genus Santalum, found wild in India, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region. The note can vary in character depending on  region and species.
